“Donna Summer made music that moved me both emotionally and physically to get up and dance. You could always hear the deep passion in her voice. She was so much more than the queen of disco she became known for, she was an honest and gifted singer with flawless vocal talent. I’ve always been a huge fan and was honored to sample one of her songs. She touched many generations and will be so sadly missed.

My love goes out to her family during this difficult time.

She’s [Beyonce] been a huge and constant part of my life as an artist since I was about ten or eleven.

The loss of Whitney Houston is painful. I remember meeting Whitney for the first time when I was 15. She was the ultimate legend. The ultimate woman. Not only was she confident, poised, stunningly beautiful and intelligent, but she was sincere and kind. She took the time to make everyone feel like they were very important to her. I, like every singer, always wanted to be just like her. Her voice was perfect. Strong but soothing. Soulful and classic. Her vibrato, her cadence, her control. So many of my life’s memories are attached to a Whitney Houston song. She is our queen and she opened doors and provided a blueprint for all of us. God bless her.

This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime. Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed.

What do you do after 16 grammys and millions of records sold around the world? Whatever makes you happy.

She makes me want to work harder. What I learned from Bey is what I learned from Mike…She’s like the 2nd coming. The hard work she puts in is unmatched!

I feel like some artists focus on their image or their hairstyle or their clothes or how they’re gonna present their selves. I focus more on how my voice is gonna change and how my music is gonna evolve and I feel that is a lot more important for me

I have no desire for anyone else’s throne. I am very comfortable in the throne I’ve been building for the past 15 years. I’ve been fortunate to accomplish things that the younger generation of queens dream of accomplishing.
